A) Installation

Installation Via FTP Client Software:

  1. Unzip the theme package magazine.zip
  2. Upload unzipped 'magazine' to the '/wp-content/themes/' directory using your favorite FTP client software
  3. Login to your WordPress admin dashboard, go to Appearance > Themes
  4. Click 'Activate' link below 'magazine' thumbnail
  5. Enjoy!

Installation Via WordPress Dashboard

  1. Login to your WordPress admin dashboard
  2. From your Admin page (Dashboard), use the menu to select Themes -> Add New
  3. Then click on `Install Themes` at the top
  4. Click the 'Upload' button to open the theme uploader
  5. Upload the 'magazine.zip'
  6. Click 'Activate'
  7. Enjoy!

Importing Dummy Content

Dummy content is located in a file called dummy.xml which is located in the "Magazine" theme directory. Below are steps how to install dummy data content:

  1. From the WordPress admin area, go to Tools > Import > WordPress.

  2. If you do not have the WordPress importer installed you will be prompted to install the importer, activate plugin and run importer.

  3. Then, in the "Choose a file from your computer", click Choose file and select magazine-dummy-content.xml located in magazine theme directory. Then Upload file and import

  4. You can create new user with login name or assign posts to an existing user. Give check at "Download and import file attachments. Then click Submit button.

  5. Now dummy data is being imported, wait until finish. Do not reload page during importing dummy content.

Home Page Setting

Step 1:

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Pages > Add New
  • Enter the page title. Example: Home
  • Leave blank the text editor
  • Go to Page Attributes box, then under Template dropdown select Home
  • Click Publish

Step 2:

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Settings > Reading
  • Under Front page displays setting, select A static page
  • In Front page dropdown, select the page name you just created in step 1 above
  • Click Save Changes

Header

The header contains:

  • Site's Logo and Description
  • Primary Menu
  • Headline News
  • Breaking News (News Ticker)

Site's Logo & Description

The site's logo image is replacement of site title. You can use site's title as logo or a plain text. Site's description is a tagline.

You can set both site's title and description in General Settings (WP Dashboard > Settings > General).

Using site's logo instead of plain text:

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Theme Options menu
  • Open General tab
  • In Website's logo upload filed, browse and select your logo by pressing Upload button. Or you can just put the image URL location.
  • Click Save Options

Primary Menu

Creating primary menu:

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Appearance > Menus
  • Under Edit Menus tab, click create a new menu link
  • Enter the menu name (i.e. Primary), click Create Menu
  • Select the menu items (Pages, Links, or Categories) you want to display
  • Select Primary Navigation as the theme location.
  • Click Save Menu

Headline News

To make your posts are displayed as headline news, select Show this post on the Headline under Featured post menu when you add/edit a post.

To make your posts are displayed on news ticker, select Show this post on the Right Slide Content under Featured post menu when you add/edit a post.

Changing the "Top News" text and it's style

You can change the "Top News" text into whatever you want. You can also change the font color and background. Here are the steps you can follow:

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Theme Options
  • Open Homepage tab, then go to Slide Right Content section
  • Specify:
    1. Title for slide right content
    2. Title background color
    3. Title color
  • Click Save Options

In the same section, you can also set how long the news' title lenght limit. Go to Input character limit for slide right content title field.

Hot Stuff

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Theme Options
  • Open Homepage tab, then go to Home Top section
  • Give a check for Check to show content carousel below the slider single checkbox
  • Click Save Options

In the same setting section (Home Top), you can also do settings as below:

  • Carousel title

To make your posts are displayed in "Hot Stuff" area, select Show this post on the Headline under Featured post menu when you add/edit a post.

In main content area, there are three areas of news-under-selected-categories. They are:

  1. Top Left Home Category
  2. Top Right Home Category
  3. Bottom Home Category

To select which post category you want to display, follow these steps:

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Theme Options
  • Open Homepage tab, then go to Top Left Home Category, Top Right Home Category, Bottom Home Category section
  • In the category dropdown, select your prefered category
  • Click Save Options

  • Heading background color

In our live demo, there are 4 widgets in homepage. They are:

Bottom Content

Bottom content contains some posts wich is created from Gallery post type. You can display bottom content by doing two steps.

C) Blog Page

Blog page lists all posts in chronological order. It is like regular blog post.

To create a blog page, follow these steps:

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Pages > Add New
  • Enter your blog page title (i.e. Blog)
  • Leave blank the textarea
  • Go to Page Attributes box, then under Template dropdown select Blog

Built-in SEO

Magazine theme comes with built-in SEO Options where you can put site's meta description and keywords to make your site has better rank in search engine.

  • Go to Theme Options
  • Open General tab
  • Under Built-in SEO fields section, put:
    1. Site meta description content
    2. Site meta keywords content

In site meta description content, put meta description and it should be no longer than 160 character.

In site meta keywords, put some keywords you want to target. Separate them by commas.

Social Media

Magazine theme provides a Twitter profile link and its follower counter and a Facebook fans-page link and its fans counter.

They can be seen in site's footer as below.

  • From WordPress Dashboard,
  • Go to Theme Options
  • Open Miscellaneous tab
  • Under Facebook section, put

Responsive Google Adsense

Magazine provides three slots of Google Adsense placement. The Google Adsense ads size are responsive, the size are automatically sized. It fits in any devices.

Ads positions:

  • Header
  • Sidebar
  • Below posts/page

You have to define Google Adsense slot ID in every fields based on each ads size.

  • From your WordPress Dashboard, go to Theme Options
  • Goto Banner Ads
  • Fill the AdSense Publisher ID field
  • Fill all Google Adsense ads size fields
  • Click Save Options

Custom Banner

You can place custom banners which has a link to your advertiser. Those banners have similar position as Google adsense ads. The settings also available in the similar page.

Upload your banner and fill the URL field. Don't forget to save the settings you made.

Sidebar Manager

You can set specific sidebars for specific posts or pages or archives. You can also override default sidebar to your own.

Creating your own sidebars:

  • From your WordPress Dashboard, go to Custom Sidebars
  • Then, you will automatically directed to Custom Sidebars tab
  • Then, Select available sidebars listed on Replaceable Sidebars column. Click Save Changes
  • To create your own sidebar, go to New Sidebar Column (still in the same page)
  • Put you sidebar name and description, then click Create Sidebar
  • In the newly created sidebar, click Configure Widgets to set what widgets will be displayed in

You will have a quite different of widget manager user interface. Open your new sidebar (it is placed at the most bottom by default), then place some widget instances in there.

To select where the new sidebar will be displayed in, click Where? link at the bottom. Then the pop up menu will be displayed on the screen as below.

You can select a specific sidebar in each post or pages on editing screen.

Whenever you add/edit your post, there is a Sidebar box menu at the right side of your screen. Select the default sidebar over there.

Enable social network sharing buttons:

  • From your WordPress Dashboard, go to Theme Options
  • Go to General tab
  • Scroll down until you find a checkbox menu Show social network sharing in single post under Single Post Option

Integrating Facebook Comment System

Magazine uses plugin integration feature to replace the default WordPress comment system.

  • From your WordPress Dashboard, go to Plugins
  • Click Add New
  • In search field, put "Facebook Comment" with no quote
  • Click Search Plugin
  • If you see "Facebook Comment" plugin on the list, click Install Now

After the plugin get activated, you have to get your Facebook App ID which can be taken from Facebook developer page. Then you can do settings from Settings > Facebook Comments.

Show/Hide Featured Image on Single Post

You can show or hide the featured image on the top of single post entry by doing this simpe steps.

  • From your WordPress Dashboard, go to Theme Options
  • Go to General tab
  • Check or uncheck to show or hide in Show featured image in single post content checkbox
  • Click Save options

Translation

Requirement: Make sure you have the WordPress installation in your language version.

For translating Magazine theme in your language, do these steps:

  • Install Poedit software
  • Open default.po file (Located in language folder of awesome theme).

    • Select the line which you want to translate.
    • See the source text in box 2.
    • Write the translation in box 3.
